United Health Care

Need I say more? AARP recommends United Health Care by lending its good name to their list of preferred insurance providers.

UHC doesnโ€™t care about senior as exhibited by their policies. I certainly cannot recommend them based on my experience. UHC disempowers their employees making them powerless to override company policy even when the policy is absurd. UHC have determined that their employees lack the common sense to override policy even in obviously absurd conditions. They donโ€™t care about their employees or customers. Bigger profits is the name of their game.

Here is my story, judge for yourself.

I have an ulcer on my foot. I am a diabetic. The ulcer is infect. I saw a podiatrist who prescribed anti-biotics and cultured the ulcer. He told me that I might need to take two different antibiotics depending on the outcome of the culture. Sure enough, I received a call from the physician to pick up the second antibiotic and was ordered to take both antibiotics simultaneously. This required a renewal of the first antibiotic. When I called the Drug Store to reorder the first antibiotic, I was told that it could not be renewed for 24 hours. I explained to the pharmacist that I did not want to make two trips to the drug store and asked that he get an override. United Health Care would not override the 24 hour delay imposed by their own policies. I called and asked that they reconsider. I got a firm NO! I thought to myslelf, surely someone at UHC is empowered to override the 24 hour delay. Well, I thought wrong! I asked to be transferred to a supervisor who also said NO! I was told they could override for โ€œvacationsโ€ but not for Rxโ€™s renewed to soon.

This ridiculous policy puts me at risk since the foot should be elevated and avoid irritation until the sore closes but UHC does not consider the issue to be serious enough to allow their agents power to override a 24 hour delay in reordering an Rx. AARP should not be lending its good name to UHC. Their attitude toward โ€˜seniorsโ€™ is evident in their policies. Look elsewhere is my recommendation. I know I will.

I would encourage the federal and state governments to investigate the endorsements by AARP for certain (or all) financial institutions. AARP is doing a disservice to their patrons by using their once-earned reputation of long ago. They have turned into a money giant only interested in the financial ends and giving little help to the senior citizens upon whose lives they once were dedicated to serving.

There is not a waiting period for antibiotics.I could see if it was pain pills but antibiotics come on.Did you check the price without insurance? Some can be very cheap(like under 10 bucks).Next time this happens check the price.Maybe you could get it without the insurance.A really good blog I recommend is called pharmacist steave.Google it.He will give you tips if you have a hard time getting your meds. You can also ask questions and he will answer them for you.Good Luck and stay strong.

I assure you there is a waiting period for the renewal of the antibiotics. my post was intended to 4 warn members of the AARP that endorsements are not for the benefit of the members but rather for the financial benefit of AARP. AARP has lost sight of its mission and long ago became self serving.

Aarp had a mission but long ago aarp lost its way. Now it's about money.

This is follow-up to a post I made August 23rd about AARP's endorsement of UHC. I made sure that the noise I made got around the blogs and posting places.

I got calls from AARP Executive Offices, Medicare and UHC. They did not change their posture or even make a faint try at apology but Medicare is not happy and neither is AARP. I am satisfied and will not renew my policy with UHC. My broker and I had a very open conversation all agree the $$$ is why AARP continues to recommend UHC.

Notice to seniors, you must not take the AARP endorsements seriously. When purchasing insurance like this, research and diligence is mandatory.
