They lied about a life critical medication being "In Formulary"

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
United Healthcare - They lied about a life critical medication being In Formulary
Updated by user Jan 18, 2024

They refused my Specialists medical statement as to necessity of the prescription. I went back to my previous carrier.

Original review Jan 18, 2024
They wanted to switch me from AETNA Dual Complete SNP plan to theirs and after questioning them about my PCP and my specialist neurologist being in network I then provided them with my medications, 2 of which are LIFE CRITICAL for managing my complex and severe seizure medication. After being guaranteed that both were in formulary - covered - but after scripts were sent to their mail order pharmacy Optum Rx, they informed me that 1 of them was NOT in formulary.

They refused to consider my Dr.'s valid explanation as to the criticality of this medication and formulary exemption.
The fact that their Optum Rx pharmacy lied during a 3-way telephone call regarding the Rx being covered prior to me signing up, and that UHC perpetuated the lie in order to lure me away from my existing Medicare insurer is despicable and actually endangered my life.

Their customer service is horrendous with different individuals telling me different stories during several phone calls, and the stress from these calls actually induced 3 Clonic seizures (Stress is a primary trigger for these type of seizures).
Fortunately, I was able to re enroll with my previous insurer as of Feb 1st 2024. PLEASE, if you or a loved one has a serious medical condition do NOT trust UHC; they WILL lie to get you away from your existing insurance carrier and have no moral compunction about the serious medical consequences should they succeed in doing so.

U-Card Farce!!! I'm Dying to get a Resolution...LITERALLY!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Original review Feb 16, 2024

This 'benefit', as they refer to it, is ANYTHING BUT... It always fails at accepted retailers.

I've had to pay out-of-pocket several times! HARDLY A BENEFIT! At the turn of the year, the 'new' card was last year's old out-dated card. So when went to Checkout, it of course, FAILED.

I called to report the problem and requested a new one...IT NEVER CAME.

I again, called to report the issue, so they said they'd send out another one. I waited 2 weeks and STILL NO CARD. I called once Again. SAME ANSWER...MORE BS!It's been over 2 months now, and still no card.

Same scam scenario, "We'll send you a new one." What's so damn hard about mailing out a card.

I get all of their other mail, so there's no issue w/my address.

They should just start offering Funeral DEATH BENEFITS!

Of course, you won't be around to contest anything if, ONCE AGAIN, they'd fail to deliver on that. In fact, the only thing they'll 'bury' you in, is paperwork and INCOMPETENCE!!!

OTC card use

Original review Feb 27, 2024
U card for OTC items that showed "approved" by the phone app scanner in the store, then were brought to checkout for purchase. At checkout 2 of the 4 items (previously had shown "aaproved" were now not allowed for checkout. Their website LIES about this or else, their system is very messed up and despite being contacted about this, no one has tried to fix it. An awful company to deal with!!!

Did u know what 2 items weren't accepted? Because when this happens to me, the stores have no clue what wasn't accepted.

So I either have to cancel the whole order ( and the associates are stuck putting it all back) or I pay the difference.

Which has really screwed up my budget every single month since Jan!! I am seriously considering going back to Humana because the incentive this was to switch has become nothing but an aggravation

Cannot get a skilled nursing facility that takes the insurance

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

For over a week now I've been trying to get the advocates to help me find a skilled nursing facility that I can do subacute rehab in that takes Medicare Medicaid United healthcare dual complete out of a three-page list of facilities. A good 50% of them have horrible ratings with the state of Colorado for abuse and neglect.

I know they're 10%. Don't take the policy. What's left? Doesn't have any bed availability.

I don't know what I'm to do. I'm in an acute rehab right now and United healthcare gave me a discharge date of January 10th. I filed two appeals with Medicare. Was denied on both.

Now the facility here is trying to force me to go to one of the facilities that I rejected due to their numerous complaints for patient abuse and neglect. I don't know what to do. I've contacted the advocates and frankly they can't find their *** with a sharp stick. The advocates are what is essentially customer service now for United healthcare and they're useless as soon as I can.

I'm going to drop United healthcare and just have Medicare Medicaid cuz then I won't have to deal with this pre-authorization b***** that United healthcare changed me with and makes it hard for me to stay in facilities. That can give me the care I need while I wait clearance to go home

OTC company UHC uses NO refunds or cancelling orders

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Thank you for the hour I wasted on the phone with 4 different reps. The last one telling me I could get a refund on the products I ordered online Dec 30.

I rec'd 2 products at different times and as of Jan 19 I am still waiting for 4 more.

They said the products were on the way, (imagine me rolling my eyes) I was not going to wait 3 weeks for the poorly run company to send me my items. I wast to cancel my order and go buy products, NOW. Each customer service rep. took and asked the same information about my case, imagine the fun I had.

The last supervisor rep. told me I could get a refund and then transferred me to the company you use for OTC products. She said they dont do refunds...ever. That was that.

1 hour and 3 weeks wasted waiting and then calling UHC to get resolution.

Did I, NOPE! Not even close. I'm even close to happy with the outcome.

Including "help" from the customer service reps. who could only say "I'm sorry to hear that.

I'm writing a review of this situation online and everywhere I can, so people know about UHC and the companies it chooses to work with.

Hi, and yes I can, and usually do. Every 3 monts the benefits start over and you need to use the benefits or lose them, I could not get to town so I used their website and ordered stuff.

Starting the stress inducing anger with United Health Care and the company they use for otc products. Thanks for asking though.

Shady business practices

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Greedy company that doesn't care how their referral process impacts patient quality of life. This company is actively working to prevent or significantly delay me from receiving timely care through their difficult referral process.

They require your PCP to review both tests and treatment recommendations from the specialists and submit a duplicate referral just to get it covered. Since when does a PCP's opinion of my condition trump the specialist they referred me to in the first place? I was just hit with several thousand dollars in uncovered medical costs for basic tests and treatments that my rheumatologist and neurologist ordered and insurance refuses to pay because they have added an unnecessary layer of PCP referral red tape. It's February and my PCP's office has had to send over 20 referrals on my family's behalf for simple care for my family and the care of my chronic condition.

The administrative burden on my life is insane, and I've lost at least 30 hours of my time in the last month trying to navigate UHC representatives, doctors' referral representatives, and my care is delayed due to the weeks it takes to get referrals processed.

Not getting timely care due to the extra red tape made my condition worse and is actually increasing the number of doctor visits. Horrible.

They stole my money

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I tried to cancel 3 months ago, been billed and tried to cancel. They said they will refund this month 3/24 ,but not the other 2, so I'm out $700+ because of their mistake. Not to mention providers are dropping them. Their current provider list included Drs that don't work with them anymore or aren't taking new patients. Did find one, over 50 miles away, their answer, silence, no help, disconnected. Robinhood in reverse, steal from the poor to give to the rich CEOs who could care less, clearly the culture from top to bottom. Hope they die penniless.

Claim explanation

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was admitted to the hospital on 12/31/23 - actually had to go to the same facility Piedmont yet bigger hospital to be treated- so that was a $250 ride copay. .I was also charged a $90 copay for my ER visit that AM of 12/31/23.

My $90 copay should be waived since I was admitted to hospital. But my fault the smaller facility could not handle my cardiac needs.

I felt so bad that AM just went to closest facility - and found out critical labs and hospital admission needed . I'm sure the ER doc would let UHC know I was definitely admitted for Inpatient care .

Thank you ,

If you were truly in the ER of the hospital you were admitted to, the ER copay should be waived. If you were initially at a health center, clinic or urgent care even if it was part of same health care system, that does not qualify.

You say something about a ride copay of $250 which sounds like you were transported. If that’s the case you were not in the ER of the hospital.

Problems ordering items with the OTC card

We have had several problems ordering grocery and other OTC items with our United Healthcare card. The items are either out of stock, not covered, or our order exceeds our credit balance, which is not the case. The company should not offer these benefits, if they can't fulfil them.

After several failed attempts at the store, I will no longer use the food benefit at a brick & mortar. The chaos caused by it's failure is just too much to tolerate.

I need to go to a skilled nursing facility for subacute rehab and of the list that I received from United healthcare.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My insurance coverage is preventing me from getting into a decent and safe skilled nursing facility for rehab. Out of a three-page list of facilities, there are only two that would take my Medicare Medicaid United healthcare dual complete plan.

All the others are rejecting it because they don't take the plan of the two that will take me for admission. They have numerous complaints for neglect and abusive patients with the state and as well as reviews online. I plan on dropping United healthcare after the next week or so and just going straight Medicare Medicaid so I can at least get into facilities without the nonsense about pre-authorization.

I'm tired of fighting for my care!! Don't get United healthcare dual complete

Preferred solution: I'd like to be able to find facilities that are skilled nursing that are safe for me to go to where I won't be harmed and neglected

User's recommendation: If you've got Medicare Medicaid, you don't need United healthcare dual complete unless you want the healthy benefits of 100 and some odd dollars for food and rent assistance
