I have been a member of AARP and United Health Care, the sponsored provider for members. I have never had extraordinary service or benefits during my 5 + years of membership.

However, I have had a very disturbing event, concerning United, for the past several weeks. Apparently, the high cost of blood thinners has caught up with United, and they surprised me with a $330.00 bill for my last prescription. This, after 5 years of expecting my usual $47.00 co-pay at the pharmacy. I called United to ask about the surprise increase, and, after over 45 minutes with the young lady representative, was assured that not only would the prescription be renewed, but that there would be no deductible and a reduction in the "tier" from 4, to 3.

I waited the suggested 3 days, and went back to the pharmacy, only to find out that nothing had happened. My doctor was kind enough to supply me with enough sample drugs to make it by for a few days. To make a disgustingly long story short, I had three different individuals tell me three different stories concerning the deductible and tier change. Finally, a letter in the mail telling me that there had never been any consideration of changing the original amount, and that I should try another drug.

I ran out of the medication while waiting, and took a chance hoping that the changes would soon come along. If this is United's way of attempting to confuse a policy holder, it only worked for a while. I am calling my social security office and cancelling my coverage with United.

My money spends well other places. AARP.....Pay attention!!

Reason of review: Problems with payment.
