United Health Care denied my son who is 5yrs old to have feeding and speech therapy. My son was diagnosed with Soto Syndrome by a Geneticist Specialist.
I was told that Soto Syndrome is a cognitional abnormality. My son has low muscle tone due to the Soto Syndrome, and currently he is only able to eat purred food and is unable to talk. But with proper therapy, he can achieve these basic skills. The United Health's Clinical Review Medical Director concluded that Soto Syndrome is NOT a cognitional abnormality and therefore he can't be eligible for the coverage.
Even with the proper supporting document/medical reports from the pediatrician's office and the therapist's office.
