As a retiree of the North Carolina school system, my health plan was United Healthcare. My experiences with this group has been awful.

I now have to pay copays for even immunizations. In the past between Medicare and BCBS, I did not have to do so. What upsets me the most is that prescriptions, even those that I have taken for many years, are routinely denied. When I’ve called to appeal these denials customer service seems only adept with transferring you to another department and putting you on hold.

I have been required to visit my doctor, try alternative expensive, high risk drugs (FDA list), and my doctor to file prior authorization forms only to have United Healthcare still deny the prescriptions. Both the state of North Carolina and United Healthcare should be ashame on treating retirees this way and risking their health.
