In January 2015, I selected United Healthcare to pick up insurance for my husband and I when we lost COBRA in March. We selected United Healthcare. My card says that I have United Healthcare (7 times....see attached card.). The back of my card says that I have United Healthcare (and directs me to their website and shows their address). My credit card statement says that I pay United Healthcare. Except, I don't have United Healthcare.

I have Golden Rule Insurance, which is under the umbrella of United Healthcare. That is different from what I was told, what I see, what I pay for. I give my card to my doctors office and without fail, they either groan, roll their eyes, or make a comment. Oh, you don't have United Healthcare. You have Golden Rule. It is different.

I've only had your insurance for 10 weeks. Last week, it was time to order meds as I was running low. I went on line to set up mail order. I had problems. I called customer service. Oh, you don't have the mail order pharmacy. You guessed it, because I don't have United Healthcare. As of last Friday, I have no more blood pressure medicine.

I have endured their customer service. In total, I have spent well over 8 hours trying to get this figured out. Two of their mangers told me that indeed the State of Virginia over-ruled private insurance and therefore, I was entitled to 90 days from a retail pharmacy. Two different pharmacies butted against their wall then they were told they could not fill the prescription. It escalated last Wed and I was told that I would hear back on Thursday. I finally got a call back this afternoon (Monday, June 22). Final word, yes, the State of Virginia has a rule that says that retail would have to supply the same number of pills as mail order. However, since I do not have the mail order privilege, I lose this protection. I take 7 different meds. If you want me to go to the pharmacy every 30 days, I will live at the pharmacy.

I checked with the broker and with your customer service before I purchased this policy. I double checked with your customer service before I signed off on the policy. I consider mail order very important and I could easily have gone with another vendor if I had had correct info. I may be confused but when your customer service department is also confused, it sounds illegal.

This is classic bait and switch. Tell her she has one thing, bill her one way, give her a deceptive card, and then let her figure it out. This has been a waste of time and the rudeness of your customer service is appalling.

Another unhappy patient (per Google),

I am a independent agent. United Health Care and Golden Rule are under United Health Care.

The only difference is United Health Care is used only for groups, and on individual basis it is Golden Rule. Hope that helps!

No help at all. This should have been explained BEFORE I bought the policy.

When I verified details of coverage, I verified UHC policies because I had no knowledge of GR.

My card, the application, the pamphlet, even the website all say UHC..... Bait and Switch Classic
